Honey Tasting

Sample different honey varieties such as wildflower, honey-clover, poplar, and blueberry using apple slices and pieces of challah.

Ten Activities

Discuss the Ten Days of Awe and then see how many activities incorporating the number ten can be done. String ten beads, make a list of ten good things that happened during the year, talk about ten ways a child has grown, name ten friends or relatives, identify ten favorite foods, or develop a list of ten goals such as things the child would like to do better or like to change.

Mirror of Reflection

Have children decorate inexpensive mirrors from craft or dollar stores. Use paint, glitter, sequins, stickers or other decorative items. When a child needs to think about how he has acted or decisions she has made have them look in the mirror.

Growth Chart

Rosh Hashanah is a great time to start a growth chart on the inside or back of a door. Mark the child’s height and date. Measurements can be taken at intervals throughout the year or annually during the holiday. Use the measurement during the Jewish New Year to talk about how he or she has grown in other ways such as intellectually, emotionally or spiritually.
