  • Reveal a demographic snapshot of Jewish Pittsburgh
  • Review current patterns of Jewish engagement
  • Provide an overview of the economic well-being of Jewish residents
  • Understand the standards of living for Jewish households

Opening remarks by County Executive Rich Fitzgerald and Chief of Staff for
Mayor William M. Peduto, Dan Gilman

The study will reveal where Jews are moving to/from within Pittsburgh as well as information relating to the behaviors and attitudes of community members throughout the greater Pittsburgh area. Questions addressed will include,

  • What are Jewish Pittsburghers’ perceptions of their Jewish identities?
  • How do they connect (if at all) with organized Jewish institutions?
  • What do they expect, need, and want from our Jewish community?

The researchers are from the Cohen Center of Modern Jewish Studies out of Brandeis University:
Dr. Leonard Saxe, Director; Dr. Matthew Boxer, Principal Researcher; and Dr. Janet Aronson, Principal Researcher.

The study was funded by the Jewish Community Foundation and was overseen by the Jewish Federation’s Jewish Community Scorecard.
