November 9 – Why Should I Care About Lord Balfour?

November 2, 2017 is the 100th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration. In this session, Rabbi Schiff will explain what the declaration was and will lead a discussion on whether we need a Jewish state at all.

December 7 Contemporary Zionism:  Do Jews Have Any Responsibilities Towards Israel?

What is a Zionist? Is Zionism still worthwhile? A conversation on the responsibilities that Diaspora Jews have for Israel, and Israelis for the Diaspora.

February 1 Jewish Law In The Jewish State

Should Israel have a separation between “synagogue” and state? Should Jewish Law play a role in the life of the state? In this session, Rabbi Schiff will explore what exactly it is that makes a Jewish state Jewish.

March 8 Who Is A Jew?

The question of who qualifies to be Jewish is a tricky and problematic issue, but nowhere is this truer than in Israel. An investigation of the Law of Return, and what it means to be Jewish today.

May 3 Conflicted About The Conflict

As Israel turns 70, the gap between Israel and American Jews seems to be widening. Is “the conflict” the problem? Something Else? Can anything be done about it? A frank discussion of a tricky problem...
