The Jewish Federation would like to announce the upcoming free Community/Congregation Security Training on August 6, 2017 and August 13, 2017 at Rodef Shalom, 4905 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15213. Each training session will start at 8:30AM and last until approximately noon.  There will be light refreshments to include coffee, water and bagels.

This training is open to anyone in the Community. The purpose of the training is to prepare Congregations and Organizations to develop sound security practices and protocols in keeping everyone as safe as possible. The training will occur over two Sunday mornings and focus on a variety of issues. We encourage everyone to attend both days to garner knowledge that can be utilized at their respective organizations or in their everyday life. We encourage the Congregations and Organizations reach out to their respective Security Committees, Men’s Club/Brotherhood, Sisterhood and Board Members to be represented at this important training.

It is our intention to reach as many people in our Community to empower them to become a “First Responder.”

The following is a breakdown of the training:

FIRST SESSION
August 6, 2017

Behavioral Analysis of a Potential Threat. This session will focus on behavioral traits to look for in an individual that may cause us harm. Our speaker will be Special Agent (SA) Robert Ambrosini from the FBI who has extensive training and practical experience in the Behavioral Analysis field. SA Ambrosini will take us through a journey of the criminal mind and provide clues on how to spot this behavior before an incident occurs.

Basic Self Defense: This session will focus on basic self-defense tactics that can be deployed in the event of an emergency. Our goal is to provide basic self-defense and restrain tactics to control a potential violent situation prior to law enforcement response. Our speaker will be Special Agent Ed Daerr (Retired) from the FBI who was a former member of the elite FBI Hostage Rescue Team in Washington, DC and the former SWAT Coordinator for the Pittsburgh FBI. SA Daerr has trained a countless number of individuals in basic self-defense and defensive tactics.

SECOND SESSION
August 13, 2017

Active Shooter:  This session will focus on Active Shooter preparedness and response. This will be a more in depth discussion on options organizations, as well as individuals can take in the event of a critical incident. We will discuss best practice procedures and preparedness tactics we can deploy.

Stop the Bleed:  This session will focus on basic first aid measures to help control and stop bleeding until Emergency Medical Technicians arrive. This course will be part lecture and then the attendee will participate in a “hands on” practical application of the techniques taught.  UPMC Trauma Physicians will teach this course.

Please RSVP to Meryl Franzos at mfranzos@jfedpgh.org.  There is no limit to the number of attendees for either day. Please sign up for one or both as soon as possible. It will be important to have an accurate account for portions of this training.
