ACTIVITY: Make Your Own Easy and Fun Shofar

The mitzvah (religious obligation) is to hear the shofar being blown, not to sound it ourselves. Even so, trying to blow the shofar is a fun, concrete way for children to welcome the New Year and remind ourselves to be better people.

(Adapted from The Jewish Holiday Craft Book)

You will need:
Brown paper grocery bag
Paper party horn
White glue
Scissors
Paintbrush (1-inch foam works great)

Cut a square foot of paper from the grocery bag.Use the paintbrush to spread white glue over one entire side of the square. Starting at one corner, roll the square around the party horn and into a cone shape. Bend the wide end of the cone shape upwards, just at the end of the cone. Let it dry completely. To maintain the bend, prop the horn up against something while drying. Once dry, trim the tip of the cone edges to round out. Blow your shofar!
